The E-ring extends much farther than the other rings. It is very close to the orbit of the moon Enceladus. The particles of the E-ring might come from Enceladus. An object might have hit Enceladus, knocking off debris. The debris might have formed the E-ring. Another theory proposes that Enceladus might be volcanic. Past, and perhaps current, eruptions might send debris into space. The debris is captured by Saturn's gravity forming the E-ring. From a distance, the rings seem smooth. A closer look reveals some interesting things. One odd feature in the narrow F-ring is the surprising appearance of bends and twists. The F-ring seems to be braided, almost like hair. Scientists
